Artist, photographer, and educator Marje grew up in Minnesota creating and enjoying art from a young age. In high school, she began painting with acrylics and later took up watercolor when she spent a few years as a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed taking classes and attending workshops. Marje continued painting from her photos while teaching and raising three children. After moving to Arizona, she was accepted into the Watercolor Guild of Tucson and had several works displayed in their juried shows. Later, she moved to Cairo, Egypt to teach in an international school and began painting the interesting people and street scenes. “History is everywhere and the unique activities of life on the street fascinate me. I try to capture the energy and colors of everyday life in Cairo,” Marje said in an interview for an art exhibition in Maadi, Egypt. Over the next 20 years, Marje continued painting and teaching internationally in Senegal, the United Arab Emirates, and Guyana. Each year, she returned to the Cape to teach in the KidSummer art program at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster before retiring to Dennis Port in 2022. Her paintings reflect the artistic inspiration she found from the Cape’s water, boats and birds. *Dates for the exhibition are subject to minor changes and may temporarily be unavailable due to Auditorium programing. Please call ahead.
