Brewster Ladies' Library Presentation of "Roadshow Anthropology" by Mark Chester

Roadshow Anthropology is a collection of images Mark Chester took from his car while driving the interstates, back roads, and Main Street USA, or while stopped at a red light or in traffic. The book's conception evolved as he was photographing The Bay State: A Multicultural Landscape, Photographs of New Americans.

About the Presenter

Mark Chester, a professional photographer since 1972, has published his photographs and feature stories in the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, and Christian Science Monitor, among others. Chester's books, No in America, contains tongue-in-cheek shots of "no" signs; Twosomes is a collection of images juxtaposed with images that are related either by a graphic element, subject or stretch of the imagination. 

Chester was the photographer for Charles Kuralt's book Dateline America. His photographs are in permanent collections in Baltimore, Brooklyn, Springfield (MA), San Francisco Museums, and others. His newest book, Roadshow Anthropology, has a foreword by Pico Iyer and was published by UMass Press. Born in Baltimore, he grew up in western Massachusetts and now lives on Cape Cod.
